The flooring is laminate pergo outcast ,and I have Roberts air guard underlayment and Roberts 6 moisture barrier if needed. Hi John, thanks for the question. Even though you are on the third floor, cement is still porous and can have moisture issues. I would still recommend using a vapor barrier for this case. It has a cement floor. Do I still need a vapor barrier underlayment?
We have radiant heat flooring cement and used a vapor barrier underlay blue one and then topped with laminate flooring which is advertised to be very water resistent. I just noticed that the VB underlay was installed upside down. Will this be a very serious issue going forward?
Please give me a peace of mind as I cannot fathom ripping up everything on our main floor baseboards, kitchen etc to re-do the underlay.
Thank you. Hi Deborah, thanks for the question. With a concrete subfloor, it never hurts to have vapor protection. Although vinyl can be installed directly on concrete, if you are prone to moisture issues, you may want to add the film.
We are retrofitting the bottom edge of our basement walls with foamboard. This was tucked under the bottom edge of the insulation and tacked to strapping at the back of the studs. We have opened the vapour barrier up, installed foamboard between the studs, and are running the vapour barrier all the way to the bottom of the foamboard, to make it continuous with the rest of the wall above.
Should we be leaving extra vapour barrier and tape it to the subfloor or should we just sealing the vapour barrier to the soleplate? The subfloor is likely to be DriCore or something like that, under vinyl. It is probably relevant to note that we live in Ottawa, Canada. Thank you for your help! Hi Susan, yes, that is correct!
With any laminate product, you will need a foam underlayment. Hi David, thanks for your question. You should also treat the floors or hire professionals to remove the mold on your subfloors and check the other wood joists in the home. Trapping the moisture could help the mold to continue growing, which can become a serious health risk. It can also start to grow up walls if it gets out of control.
Hi I live in fog heavy place… subfloor is hardwood. Some mold from hardwood is visible due to moisture. Should I use a moisture barrier detailed here for install? Will this trap the moisture and damage the hardwood as Home Depot advises against? Hi Jamie, thanks for your question. Stop flooring installation when you reach a distance of 1 foot from the edge of the underlayment.
Just like Step 4 , unroll another section of underlayment right up against the previously installed underlayment section.
Measure and cut accordingly. You may be tempted to continue laying down underlayment — Do not lay down everything at once. This way you will have full control of your project and seamless, moisture-resistant connections between each of the sections.
When unrolling your rows, install your next row on the top of the overlap, however be sure to not overlap the foam edges. Using the attached overlap creates a seamless moisture seal between rows when properly installed. Use packing tape to seal the rows together — this will keep your 2in1 Vapor Barrier Underlayment in place and assure the functionality of the vapor barrier.
Continue and repeat Steps 4 to 9 , installing underlayment and flooring together. Make sure to follow installation instructions provided by the manufacturer of the flooring. Now you should be know how to install 2in1 Vapor Barrier Flooring Underlayment, however if you have additional tips that you think we should include in this guide, please let us know! Thank you so much for your reply. I cannot confirm that the concrete was sealed prior to gluing but it can be inferred that the glue acts as a vapor barrier. They claimed that manufacturers would void the warranty. I believe that manufacturers are reluctant to honor warranties because it is safer for them but the risk is minimal.
